Field Shelter Frequently Asked Questions
If you like the concept and have any questions please feel free to ask. We have covered a few of the common questions below but every application, animal and location is different so feel free to get in touch.
How are they supplied?
Our Mobile Field Shelters are supplied in a kit of 5 heavy boxes which can be assembled in an afternoon with a minimum of just two people. A detailed manual and photo assembly guide takes you through the process step-by-step. We're also on-hand during office hours to answer calls for advice.
Will it blow away?
No. Our shelters are supplied with heavy duty ground fixings which keep the frame firmly secured to the ground. They also feature strong steel frames which have clever wind bracing which combine to achieve a wind rating up to Gale force 10. This ensures they are suitable for the majority of locations however please check the extremes your area is exposed to prior to purchase.
Do you offer a warranty?
Our shelters are supplied with a 12 month warranty covering against frame and cover defects. This excludes damage through incorrect assembly, extreme weather, animal damage, normal wear and tear and misuse.
Do they flap in the wind?
This is understandably a common concern as noise can spook animals, particularly Ponies and Horses. The main cover is well tensioned to the frame by a ratchet system which pulls it very tightly down on the frame and prevents flapping. Attached to the main cover is a side skirt which takes rain water away from the base. This may flap until covered or buried, as part of the assembly process.
For use with animals we recommend our Field Shelter models are used as a tunnel without door and rear panels fitted. The end panels are supplied for users wishing to use the shelter for storage purposes. They are designed to move in the wind and can therefore create noise in strong winds. If you wish to fit one panel to the rear of the shelter for added protection a simple solution to prevent any flapping is to build a low wall of straw bales, front and back of the panel.
Can you supply replacement parts?
Our shelters feature a modular design which means any part can be replaced easily. We aim to keep spares in stock for all the models in our range so if a part gets lost or damaged we can usually send out a replacement in one or two days.
Do they withstand rubbing?
It is impossible to account for all animal behaviours and to calculate the forces involved so we do not offer a guarantee against rubbing. Matting, Wall linings such as plywood and scratch posts can all be added to your shelter to ensure it does not receive any unwanted attention. We suggest to customers that they do what is best based on how their animals are known to behave.
Can I use any of your Shelter models as a Field Shelter?
No. Only the 'HD' models PS-917HD-300F and PS-1218HD-300F have been specifically designed and tested for Field Use by Protech Shelters across the UK. Other shelters are designed for suburban exposure and are not suited to the extremes of use in exposed locations. |
